Aimee Birnbaum RI and George Politis RI are exhibiting at the French Institute in George’s home town of Thessaloniki. ‘Deracinements II’, or ‘Refugees II’, opens on 25 February and continues until 14 March 2020. They are exhibiting with Anna Massinissa from Italy.
The exhibition will focus on the plight of displaced and uprooted peoples. Aimee will exhibit paintings and digital works on the Atlantic Slave Trade from West Africa to the Americas, as well photographs suggestive of what is left behind in fragments of memory. George will explore historical upheavals and expulsions that ripped people from their families and homes, using vibrant paint charged with pain and emotion.
