| In October I am taking a group to Iraqi Kurdistan. Where to begin…? It will be a chance to stand on street corners and watch the world go by – the markets, the mosques, the mountains and the great rivers that made this one of the cradles of civilisation. We’ll learn about the Kurds, their proud culture and their ongoing struggle for autonomy. We’ll visit one of Saddam Hussien’s old palaces, the clifftop town of Amedi, the Yazidis in Lalish and the Mar Mattai monastery. Juan, our female guide will take us camping and for those interested I will be teaching drawing each morning in the places we find ourselves.
This is designed for all abilities and none. Please don’t be put off by thinking ‘I can’t draw’ the purpose of this trip is not to create finished pieces but to use it as a tool to observe, make memories and tell stories.
