Final Patron’s Fund Workshop with Deborah Walker RI

The third and final day arrived for the water colour workshops, paid for by the Patron’s Fund money gifted to the RI by our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen, on the occasion of her 90th Birthday.

Deborah Walker RI tutored the final session where by demonstration she led the group through a brief and lighthearted resume of the science of watercolour, illustrating how and why the physical properties of watercolour pigments behave as they do. She also demonstrated how the physical properties of watercolour paper can be used to advantage. The group were then shown how they could apply this knowledge to create watercolour texture effects using a variety of simple yet effective techniques.

As 4 o’clock approached President Rosa Sepple and Vice President Robin Hazlewood thanked all of the students for attending and wished them all the best with their future watercolour endeavours.

We hope the workshops have inspired and encouraged the participants to continue to explore the tradition of water colour painting in all it’s varied forms. Through tuition and demonstration we hope we have opened eyes and minds to spark an interest that will lead to new and exciting watercolour journeys and bring these young artists back to the RI to exhibit with us!
